My name is Donatta Ibe. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in Houston, TX.
After changing my major 7 times, I was at my wit’s end. One day I sat in my car, exasperated. I bowed my head and prayed. “What do you want me to do?” I asked God. When I raised my head again and opened my eyes, I saw a small red car with the words “SOCIAL WORK” dominating the back window.
I had my answer, so I changed my major one last time. I went on to pursue a Bachelor, Master, and Doctorate degree in Social Work before ultimately securing my license as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. I have decided to offer Christian counseling specifically because of what I experienced after the loss of my sister. I turned to counseling for help navigating my grief. I left my first and only session devastated and hopeless. The counselor I saw was missing something huge – hope and truth. They couldn’t point me to any source of hope or strength, and I was left to stew in my loss alone.
When I finally started on my social work path, I knew my counseling had to be different, and I knew that the presence and wisdom of God in counseling are what so many people in this world desperately need. It’s what my sister needed, and it’s what I needed after her death.
So today, I offer the counseling young women like us needed back then. I work with my clients to not only face and cope with their mental health but to do so with the help of the ultimate healer, Jesus Christ, and the wisdom of the gospel. My counseling is guided by biblical values and scripture to guide my clients on the path to a healthy, happy, Christian life.
